Wake Up Call - Yikes! I Made One Of Our Clients Cry!

We've been working diligently with some very nice clients to find them a home in Ozark, Nixa, or Springfield MO that meets their needs and budget. It seems like every time we find the right house, something unexpected happens that knocks it out of the running. Last week we came close again and another issue surfaced. I was asking a bunch of questions and trying to figure out what to do next and all of a sudden she burst into tears. What I didn't realize was she was heartbroken over the stress and emotions of not finding the right home yet. I felt SO bad and gave her a big hug. Thank goodness everything is okay now and the search continues.

As REALTORS® sometimes we get caught up in the facts, just the facts, and forget that buying a home is a very personal and emotional experience for buyers and sellers. Its not just a house, its a home. Its easy to get caught up in current interest rates, new listings, marketing homes, showing homes, scheduling inspections, meetings, negotiating contracts, and so on and forget about the human aspect of selling homes. We surely learned our lesson!

All too true!  We as Realtors need to watch out for the emotions that may be just under the surface of our clients.  Buying a home today is not an easy task!

Yes, we must be sensitive to the roller coaster buyers are on.  Especially when they keep putting out offers and not getting the homes.  Once your in escrow, we must be sensitive that they don't know the process and that it is overwhelming.

I've always said every Real Estate professional should HAVE to buy or sell a property every 3 years just to remind themselves how stressful and emotionally exhausting the process can be. Glad you were able to comfort your client and get her perspective back on track. That's the mark of a true professional.

Yes it is stressful. Although I have bought several home, I have not gone through the experience in about 11 years and not since I have been an agent. We are in the process now and it is so stressful and all consuming! I have broke down in tears myself! It is good to feel the "pain" your clients feel!

Barbara, its especially hard these days!

Kim, these buyers have really been on the roller coaster.

Colleen, yes thank goodness we have a good relationship with them.

Shannon, we are thinking about selling our home too, we may feel the pain also!

I agree, we get so wrapped up in "resale", "disclosures", and "inspections"  that we forget how emotional the process can be on buyers.  Good Luck

Thanks for the Post

It is so true you can get caught up in all the facts, and procedures, that you forget there are real emotions involved in the process.  Sounds like you handled it well.

Joey, its easy to get wrapped up in the details.

Michael, I think we handled it ok, just wish we would have prevented it in the first place.
