Say Yes to Stop Double Taxation! Missouri Real Estate Transfer Tax

There are LESS THAN TWO WEEKS LEFT to register for the opportunity to Vote YES To Stop Double Taxation in the November 2nd general election. Please don't let the October 6th voter registration deadline slip up and pass you by! Stop Double Taxation

If you are already registered to vote, then please inquire of your family, neighbors and business and civic associates. We appreciate continued strong support for Amendment 3, but that support must translate into votes. So please encourage voter registration today and every day through October 6th and then vote YES in the November election!

The specific language of the proposal is:

"Shall the Missouri Constitution be amended to prevent the state, counties, and other political subdivisions from imposing any new tax, including a sales tax, on the sale or transfer of homes or any other real estate?"

What is a real estate transfer tax?
It's a tax imposed by state or local governments, or both, that is collected when you transfer ownership of your home, land or other real estate. Typically, once the tax is on the books; the rate can be increased by the state, city or county without a vote of the people.

Why is this tax unfair?
Missouri homeowners already pay property tax. Many sellers have owned their homes for decades, and they have already paid thousands of dollars in property taxes and other fees. A real estate transfer tax is nothing more than double taxation. There is currently no transfer tax in Missouri and this amendment will keep it that way.

Be sure to vote YES on this amendment in November!

Hey, no fair! I was going to post about this same thing!

I just hope that enough registered Missouri voters hear about this to vote "YES!" I've talked to a lot of people and have had to explain to some how much it would end up costing them if they had to sell their property. That usually makes them understand it more clearly...

Hello Amber,

Oops, sorry!  More than one poster will not hurt a thing!  You are correct, it is a dangerous thing and I fear regretted if not stopped.

We are both from West Plains and still have lots of family there.  It's a great area!
