Join with thousands of other Missouri residents and sign our pledge today to help mobilize friends and colleagues in support of a ballot initiative in 2010 to protect your property from a real estate transfer tax.
With big state and local government deficits caused by wasteful spending, politicians are looking for new revenue sources. Enough is enough when it comes to taxes. We already pay sales taxes, income taxes, personal property taxes, and many other taxes and fees.
We need to keep Missouri free from additional tax burdens, especially those that unfairly target homeowners. Real estate transfer taxes are happening in other states, including Illinois, Iowa, Kansas and Arkansas. We need to make sure they do not happen in Missouri.
Transfer or sales taxes on real estate in other states range as high as 4 percent, costing the average homeowner over $4000. With state budget deficits ballooning, taxes are likely to go even higher.
Outlawing a transfer tax will send a message that enough is enough. This amendment will stop a new sales tax on our homes. We do not need reckless governments spending more of our tax dollars.
Our Local school systems will not be impacted because school districts are currently prohibited from raising revenue through sales and transfer taxes.
Vote Yes to protect our homes and prohibit politicians from double taxation. Property taxes are already too high. Now is not the time to raise taxes on our homes!
The amendment is simple:
Shall the Missouri Constitution be amended to prevent
the state, counties, and other political subdivisions
from imposing any new tax, including a sales tax, on
the sale or transfer of homes or any other real estate?
A YES vote means changing the Missouri constitution
to prevent the state or local government from charging
any new tax on the sale of a home or property.
