Does Your REALTOR® Look Anything Like Their Picture?

I met a REALTOR® recently at a home closing and really had to do a double take! Is this the right person? I've seen their picture on their business cards, Internet,  and advertising and I was really surprised how different they looked than their picture! It was almost like the pictures you see on late night infomercials.

Results not typical! Does your REALTOR® Look Like Their Picture?

This made me laugh! No one in my office updates their younger-looking pictures, lol. It amazes me!

Glamour shots is a thing of the past.

Cute dogs and great tagline.  "spouses selling houses."  I love it.

That is so true! I don't think it looks good to give out a card with a picture that is 15 years old! Sometimes we can't even receognize the person.

Very funny - but true!!

Funny!  For just this very reason, I had my dad take a new photo of me over Thanksgiving and uploaded it.

LOL! I love it! I've had quite a few of these experiences throughout my career! I've even looked at a real estate agent directly and didn't recognize her because she didn't even look like the photo!

Isn't that the truth, ego's in real estate!

Have seen Realtors at the Maine state convention that are billboard bigger than life in their on line presence and meek, mild and mousey up close and personal. Elvis ate too many ice cream sandwiches and had trouble getting in to the Vegas jump suit but the show must goes on. For awhile. It's like a home that wide angle lens and over the top hype leave a buyer who actually walks thru and see the nuclear waste dump across the street and what you did not post feeling cheated, played with. Honest..down to earth be who you are, not glamour look at me the key. It's about customer. Making them comfortable, feeling they have your undivided attention to help them with their real estate situation.

Great post, thanks!  I've seen this before and it's funny how the people never look younger than their photo!  I felt like telling them you might want to update your picture at least every 20 years or so!

I hope outdated glamour shots never totally leave the business; I enjoy the chuckles too much.

I think some of the cartoon photos are great.  Self marketing is part of the whole package and that includes keeping our photos up to date.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but the whole purpose of photos is recognition, right?

So true! I saw an agents photo on a fact sheet yesterday while showing his listing, and it was obvious the photo was from the 70s!! It made my buyer and I chuckle!

I love it.  That's why I never use my picture on anything.  But then again, I am dealing with a different client base.

Funny but true.  I have seen agents have glamour shots and look like a movie star.  Then they come to the office and look like ......

This is funny and there is a few agents I didn't even recognize because of it.  I don't do glamor shots and wouldn't pay for to be done.

When we moved here there was one lady who had her face all over ads and even a billboard for realestate. We had been here for some months and I had never seen her in person. One day I saw a car with her signs on the side, but an old woman was driving it, and I actually thought that she must have her Mother advertising for her, too. Nope- found out it was HER! Her picture was at least 30 years out of date.

This is a funny blog, why didn't I think of it? Every now and then I hear comments about an agent, and how they use a 20 year old glamor shot photo on their business card.

Posted by Jon Budish (Resident Realty) about 9 years ago

Thanks so much everyone for all the comments! I thought this was a hoot and now I see its a common problem.

Betty and John,  I love the dog picture!  I just had my picture redone, but I'm sure there are days I don't look like my picture now (bad hair days, etc.)   Oh well, can't worry about those.

Using a really old photo of yourself is wrong. If you can't be truthful in representing what you look like, how honest is your portrayal of the properties you are selling? I have a new photo taken every year.

Posted by Richard Mielke, REALTOR, Gettysburg Pennsylvania Real Estate (RE/MAX Results) about 9 years ago

Really funny post and photos. I think all of us recognize the truth in what you had to say. We've got to keep an honest presentation not just of our listings, but ourselves.
